1. a lining of wood on the walls of a room. A wainscot usually has panels.
2. the lower part of the wall of a room when it is decorated differently from the upper part; dado.
3. a) a straight-grained white oak of very good quality, such as was originally imported into England from Russia, Germany, and Holland, used especially for paneling rooms. b) a board or piece of this.
